Featured story. Our client Sam, a community college student who was focused on entrepreneurship, wanted to transfer to the best business program in his state.
We helped him transfer to his dream program as one of the only students, if not the only student, to transfer to UNC-Chapel Hill’s prestigious Kenan-Flagler Business School.

Where we’re different: learning about his story
We don’t put our clients’ basic stats into cookie-cutter pathways. Each student is different, and for Sam, he had captivating stories that resonated with us and that we knew would also be valued by top universities.
What he initially told us
Sam was very clear in his desire to learn about business management.
He shared that he launched a business with his family (while being in community college), and that accelerated his desire to learn from the best to apply and help his family—and community
What more conversations revealed
Through rounds of conversations, we learned that his family’s business was at the “growth” stage—he was conflicted about whether going out of state was a good idea
We evaluated what options were best specifically for him, leading to UNC-Chapel Hill’s elite Kenan-Flagler business program as the target, which balanced the top program he desired while remaining close enough to help support the business on the weekends
How we helped his application
Application essay supportUnlike most college admissions advisors, we don’t tell clients what to write or write on their behalf. However, our clients often have a different view of what admissions offices want to see.
As Sam planned his essays, we provided feedback to remove common red flags and tailor it uniquely to his personal journey and ambitions.
Crisis responseFor many clients, we’re their most trusted or only expert in college applications. We take that responsibility very seriously, even if that’s unrelated to our agreements with our clients.
For Sam, that meant that we were on-call to help respond to a clerical error related to residency that we were able to help resolve before the application deadline.
Teaching how applications workOur clients likely went through college applications already in high school. Although that experience helps, we review with them what and why colleges want to see each information, and provide tips for each one.
We helped him plan how to turn not just his grades but also his positive attidude and inquisitive mind into a stellar letter of recommendation, as well as other factors like which test scores to showcase.
Result:
Sam was accepted to UNC-Chapel Hill’s business program! Since then, he graduated from the program with a Bachelor’s degree and is applying his knowledge to the family business, and keeping in touch with his professors to use the business as a lab for what’s next in business management.
